Downtown Yo. construction update for summer events

The start of summer in Ohio almost always comes with orange barrels.
For those who live and work in Downtown Youngstown, it's been a headache for about a year.
The streets are ripped up, part of Phelps Street is still closed and now Boardman, Front and Federal streets are seeing construction too.
In the midst of all this roadwork, the first big event at the Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre takes place this weekend.
Deputy director of public works, Chuck Shasho says Phelps Street will be open to car and foot traffic for the amphitheater event this weekend and once electricity is hooked up to the street lamps and flowers are all planted on June 4th, it will open permanently.
Shasho says the hold up was due to supply chain issues with things they needed to build the street.
He says if you're attending events downtown all a little extra time to get around.
"We do have specific detours in place for access to the ampitheatre and the Covelli Center. Commerce street, the water line is complete, we'll be starting on the road way up there. There will be work starting on the east end of Federal Street, working around the events, obviously," said Shasho.
Fortunately, all the usual parking lots are open, you'll just have to drive an extra block or two to get to them.
As far as the Front street project that has much of the street closed right now, the city says that project will be finished by Halloween.
