Youngstown Schools CEO Justin Jennings will officially take on the role of superintendent when the district is out of state control in the summer.

Jennings's five-year contract was approved Tuesday evening with a 5-2 vote from the school board. Jennings was also named interim superintendent from July 1 to 31.

That's when the district will be locally controlled and no longer have state oversight.

However, the state could pay all of Jennings's contract salary if the district shows improvements
