In April, 21 News reported on a metal scrap fundraiser in Cortland to help build a Safety City for kids. Now, a check for nearly $4,000 was presented to City Council to help make that goal a reality.

Northeast Ohio Junk Removal and the Cortland Lions Club teamed up to collect over 15,000 pounds of scrap metal items from across Trumbull County.

The Safety City would be an interactive educational space for kids to learn to obey traffic laws, as well as other important life skills.

"I wanted to give back to my community. All the people I have served. I was looking for a way to give back and when this came about, I decided this was the correct way to go," said Ryan Stan of NEO Junk Removal.

Additionally, money will be raised for the project at the Cortand Street Fair. The fair will take place from July 21 through 23.
