An Austintown man awaiting an attempted murder trial is behind bars after allegedly having fentanyl and a gun in his car.

According to the release, 23-year-old Tyree Robinson was pulled over on Idaho Road Sunday evening after officers found that his car was missing a front headlight.

During the stop, Robinson said he was heading home to fix the light and needed to hurry home because his girlfriend is pregnant and nauseous.

Officers say they smelled marijuana coming from the car but Robinson denied having any on him, saying he smoked while he was at a skate park in Warren.

Reports say Robinson's car was searched and officers found a small amount of marijuana and a backpack.

When grabbing the backpack, the officer felt a gun inside.

Police opened the bag and found a handgun, 10 rounds in the magazine and a live round in the chamber. They also found a digital scale, marijuana, a bag containing white powder and basketball shorts.

According to the report, Robinson said that this incident was going to "screw up his life."

Officers logged the firearm, fentanyl, scale and basketball shorts as evidence.

Robinson is charged with improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle and possession of drugs.

The 23-year-old's jury trial for attempted murder and felonious assault was set for Monday but was continued.
