People in Newton Falls and from across our region are showing support for a small dairy farm in Newton Township.

The farm has been in the Montgomery family for four generations and is recovering after a barn roof came crashing down due to heavy snow and ice in February this year.

The collapse caused not only damage to the barns, but trapped some of the dairy cows that resulted in their death.
Farmers have been housing the cows for them since the fire but the owners of the farm want to start their business as soon as possible.

Friends, family,  and folks in Newton Falls and even strangers across our region are helping them with donation of items to raffle and in other ways.

Sunday there was a fundraiser at Faces Lounge.

"So we're trying to help them remain solvent, to get rebuilt, and continue that legacy of 100 years of dairy farming in Newton Township," said one of the organizers Amie Crowder said.

Other farmers, friends, businesses and emergency workers who helped rescue the dairy cows, and strangers from four counties provided 178 baskets for raffle, made donations and are are showing support in  many ways.

Auctions of items are also helping raise funds.

The Montgomery family is overwhelmed by all the support.

"It's just people seeing the situation we're in to help support and take care of our family. It means the world to us. We are very grateful," Susan Montgomery said.

Insurance costs don't cover everything.

Plus since COVID, the price of labor is up, the cost of materials have doubled.

Fundraisers like this one are helping the Montgomery Family get closer to their goal of being dairy farmers again so they can make a living and help provide their product for other family tables.

A friend set up a fund people can donate to help the Montgomery Dairy Farm at Huntington Bank.
