A pair of Ukrainian twins are now adjusting to life in America after being forced to flee the war-torn country for their safety.

Now attending Champion Central Elementary School, 7-year-olds Natasha and Sasha tell 21 News they're just like any other kid who wants to play and have fun.

Their lives were completely uprooted amid the war, forcing the twins and their mother on a journey through several different countries before finally reaching the U.S.

Nataliya Sashkina, the girl's mother, says they are still faced with a tough decision.

"FOR ONE YEAR, WE SHOULD DECIDE WHAT TO DO AND IF THE WAR WOULD FINISH IN UKRAINE, WE SHOULD RETURN BACK TO UKRAINE OR WE SHOULD APPLY FOR ANOTHER VISA?" asked Sashkina.

The twins, newly enrolled, are still not very fluent in English, requiring the help of a translator.

The language barrier proves an obstacle, but there's one way of communication seemingly universal, recess and gym class, the girl's favorite.

Sashkina says she was worried socializing would be a challenge for her girls but just four days into their new school the two were already making friends.

While the circumstance isn't ideal, Natasha and Sasha can navigate through this new adjustment together alongside their mom.
