The Austintown mother of twin babies will spend Mother’s Day in jail after police charged her with two counts of child endangering following an investigation into how her 4-week-old son was seriously injured.

The charges were filed Thursday against 29-year-old Kaitlyn Wilson of Redgate Drive.

Nicholas Tigges, 34, the father of their twin children, was charged earlier with felonious assault, child endangering, and domestic violence after the couple brought the infant son to Akron Children’s Hospital last month.

According to a police report, doctors said the child’s head was swollen, with five skull fractures and two incidents of brain bleeds, that did not appear to be accidental.  In addition, the baby had bruises on his stomach and thigh.

As of Friday, the boy’s mother remained in the Mahoning County jail awaiting a court hearing set for Monday.

The father has been in jail since April 30.  His court hearing is scheduled for later this month.
