Friday morning commuters along part of 224 in Boardman had to take a detour because of a truck fire.

State Troopers say a tractor-trailer struck a manhole cover that was out of place near Pheasant Drive shortly before 6 a.m.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the manhole cover bounced up and struck the truck's natural fuel gas tank, causing a rupture and explosion.

The truck driver, Erik Maniecki, age 27, of Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

The entire truck cab was damaged.

Residents living in the area reported hearing the explosion.

The fire was extinguished in a few minutes.

The road reopened just after 9:30 a.m., four hours after the fire.

A Hazmat team and ODOT crew were called out to keep oil from leaking into nearby waterways.
