Truck smashes camper along turnpike in Trumbull County
There was extensive damage, but no one was seriously injured when a tractor-trailer struck a camper along the Ohio Turnpike in Trumbull County late Wednesday.
Rescue squads from the Newton Falls Fire District and Lordstown Fire Department responded after 911 dispatchers received several calls about the crash shortly before 10 p.m.
State Troopers tell 21 News that the SUV and camper had pulled off to the side of the highway before a construction zone along the westbound lanes.
The tractor-trailer drifted off the road, tearing out one side of the camper.
One person who had exited the SUV told troopers that his leg was injured when it struck a guardrail and he jumped out of the path of the truck.
First responders on the scene reported a large field of debris at the crash site.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is still investigating.
