Ohio Attorney General honors two local police training academies

Ohio Attorney General, Dave Yost made multiple stops in the Valley Tuesday afternoon to honor some local police training academies.
Yost designated the Kent State facility in Warren in the Youngstown State University Police Academies as STAR training centers, a special distinction reserved for excellence in state law enforcement programs.
The Kent State Police Academy is the only advanced training academy within Northeast Ohio. Kent State is the Northeast Ohio Regional training provider for the Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy (OPOTA).
"What they've done is additional training, harder training, more focused training and at least 85% of the cadets that come through here actually pass the OPOTA Exam. It's a rigorous higher level school for cops," Yost said.
The designation was created to help improve the preparation for those entering a career in law enforcement.
