The Columbiana County Dog Pound's longest resident has finally found a forever home.

Last week, we shared with our 21 News viewers information about Janice, an American Staffordshire Terrier Mix, that had been at the pound for more than two years - more than 884 days. She was the longest resident of the pound in recent history.

But on Sunday, Dog Warden Heidi Wallace shared with us the good news that Janice had finally been adopted.

Wallace said Janice's new family saw the 21 News report and said "That's is my dog."

Wallace says the family is perfect, and staff at the pound have happy hearts to see the 9 year-old dog finally find a forever home.

"Janice, being used to living in her kennel, when an interested party would come and meet her, she would go right back to the double doors and want to go to her kennel," said Wallace. "This time it was different. Janice loved them immediately and the decision was quickly made they belonged together."

Janice first came to the pound in 2019. She was found as a stray in Wellsville and although she is described as a 'very sweet, energetic and playful girl' she had been overlooked by potential adopters for years.

"Well, if you've ever heard the black dog story. They get over looked a lot. We get several black dogs in here, probably more so than any color. And just the Pitbull mentality. But she is a super super sweet dog," said Wallace.
