Newton Falls man fined for dog attack, allowed to keep animal

The owner of a dog that attacked another dog in Newton Falls is being allowed to keep his pet.
42-year-old William Dempsey appeared in Newton Falls Municipal Court Thursday and plead no contest to a charge of failure to keep an animal under reasonable control.
The charge stemmed from an incident where Dempsey's pit bull attacked a 12-year-old Pomeranian mix outside of a woman's home.
The woman found her Pomeranian mix in the jaws of the dog and had to bite the animal on the ear to free her pet.
Both the woman and her dog were injured, with the Pomeranian mix being rushed to the vet with multiple punctures and lacerations.
The court found Dempsey guilty of the charge and gave him a $150 fine.
He will be able to keep his dog but the animal will have to be tethered or caged and will be quarantined for 10 days.
