Canfield Speech and Debate Director named to Hall of Fame

Canfield High School’s Director of Speech and Debate has been inducted into the Ohio Speech and Debate Association’s Hall of Fame.
Jeremy Hamilton, who is also a math teacher in the school district, was inducted during the 2022 OSDA State Tournament. Hamilton was elected to the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility, after a statewide vote.
“I am appreciative of the students, parents, coaches, judges, alumni, colleagues, administrators, community members, and organizations whose efforts, contributions, and support have been essential to the team’s success,” said Hamilton.
During Hamilton’s 16 years as head coach of the Canfield Speech & Debate Team, the team has earned “First Place” at 101 Tournaments, placed in the “Top 10” teams at the annual State Tournament 12 times, was the team State Runners-Up twice, team State Champions once, and has been recognized as a Top 100 program nationwide ten times.
The team has earned 520 State Qualifiers, 70 State Finalists, 18 State Runners-Up, 5 State Champions, and 100 National Qualifiers during Hamilton’s tenure as coach.
He has served on the OSDA Board of Directors Executive Committee for nine years, holding leadership positions as the Board Chairperson for three years, Board Secretary for five years, and the Chairperson of the Competition Committee for one year.
Hamilton has served as the Chairperson of the OSDA Youngstown District Committee for nine years. Additionally, Mr. Hamilton’s efforts led to Canfield Local Schools co-hosting the OSDA State Tournament.
