A Mahoning County woman who previously worked as an insurance agent faces two felonies after being indicted for both grand theft and insurance fraud.

Poland resident Stacey Lucas is in the Mahoning County Jail after a grand jury found there was enough evidence to charge her with illegal activity between January 2016 and September 2017 where she allegedly solicited money from people trying to make insurance payments to Aflac.  

According to Mahoning County Assistant Prosecutor Nicholas Brevetta, Lucas received over $26,000 in commissions where she made fraudulent applications while working as a licensed life insurance agent. . Lucas also allegedly  got $24,000 from stolen checks made by people trying to make routine private insurance payments to Aflac.

Both the grand theft and insurance fraud indictments are  level 4 felonies because the monetary value Lucas allegedly received was over $7,500. The total estimated value the Mahoning County Prosecutor's office claims Lucas took was over $50,000

It is unclear how many people might have been victimized by Lucas' reported actions.

Lucas pleaded not guilty to both charges on Wednesday. 

A trial date has not been set.
