Canfield Village Middle School has opened up a brand-new sensory room for students.

Several factors such as changing classes, using technology, wearing a backpack and managing adolescent changes can impact a student's ability to pay attention in school.

The new sensory room was made to help students cope with these issues.

Assistant Superintendent John Vitto says a typical sensory room would have station with active areas, calming areas and various types of sensory activities.

The rooms often have dim lighting, soothing colors and vestibular swings.

The room is courtesy of funding from Howard Merritt, the J. Ford Crandall Memorial Foundation, Thomases Family Endowment of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation and Valley Counseling Services.
