Nursing students at Youngstown State University got help trying to secure careers after they graduate.

The Centofanti School of Nursing hosted a job fair at the Kilcawley Center on Monday. Recruiters from Mercy Health, Steward Trumbull Regional Medical Center,  OSU Wexner Medical Center, MetroHealth, Cleveland Clinic, Salem Regional Medical Center, UPMC and others showcased what they have to offer in order to attract future nurses.

Senior students had the chance to talk and apply with those health systems for two hours.

YSU representatives expressed beliefs that hospitals and surgery centers from all over the area are clamoring for new graduates since facilities are still dealing with the pandemic. Centofanti School Director Nancy Wagner thought those soon-to-be graduates should have no fear locking down a post-graduation job.

"It's very easy to find a nursing job right now," Wagner said. "The hospitals are understaffed and they are in need of our graduates."

Wagner expected that all 94 seniors in the nursing program will land jobs at a health agency.

She believed the majority remaining will remain local when they transition from school to work by signing with Mercy Health or Steward.
