As another winter storm sweeps over the Valley, the USPS is urging homeowners to do their part to help clear snow and ice from paths so letter carriers can deliver the mail.

This would include plowing or shoveling snow and ice from sidewalks, stairs and mailboxes. Steps and porches should be rid of precipitation too. Snow and ice are hazards that can pose serious threats to Postal Service employees.

Residents and businesses with blue collection boxes near their property should also keep them clear of snow and ice.

There is a threat of customers' mail and packages being delayed in the heavy weather since the USPS relies on their letter carriers to maintain consistent delivery service.

"Postal employees make every reasonable effort to deliver mail in many difficult weather conditions. With your help, we can keep our letter carriers, your neighbors, and your property safe," the Postal Service said in a statement.

The USPS said they usually receive no tax dollars for operating expenses, like clearing paths.
