Investigators are still working to find the person responsible for a vacant house fire on Youngstown's south side

Kurt Wright of the Youngstown Fire Department says they have no suspects, but are offering a $5,000 dollar reward to anyone with information that can help find who did it.

Fire Crews battled flames at the Mohawk Avenue property early Thursday morning after an individual tossed a Molotov cocktail into the house, despite wind chills well below zero.

"It was the rear back corner which is the kitchen, it was on the first floor.", said Wright. "You can see the chain link fences, shows the suspect leap both fences and go east bound.", he added.

YFD is analyzing surveillance footage provided by neighbors showing the incident.

One of the neighbors, asking to remain anonymous says her daughter's bedroom is on the side of the house, facing the burnt structure.

"She came running upstairs telling us - Mom the house is on fire.", she tells 21 News.

A long-standing rental, the home had been vacant for about three weeks.

"Unfortunately, we do have a lot of experience in the city with fighting fires.", added Wright. "I believe an additional crew was dispatched to this location."

Depending on the circumstances, fire departments will let a vacant house burn to the ground, but this wasn't one of those times.

"If they decided to go defensively and allow this to burn down a lot of times it would damage the neighboring home.

The house sits on the corner of Mohawk and Bellfield Avenues, which is surrounded by three occupied structures.
