Pie lovers celebrated National Pie Day on Sunday, Jan. 23, and 21 News got in on the fun with Capri Cafaro as she showed us how to make an Ohio Buckeye Pie.

Pie day may be over, but you can still make this delicious treat by following the recipe below. Be advised that this recipe contains peanut products.

OHIO BUCKEYE PIE WITH CHOCOLATE PRETZEL CRUST

 

 

PRETZEL CRUST

 

Ingredients

  • 5 cups chocolate covered pretzel, crushed

  • 8 tablespoons butter, melted

  • ? cup brown sugar

 

Directions

  1. Combine pretzels, butter, and brown sugar. Press mixture into pie pan.

  2. Bake for 10 minutes or until golden. Let cool to room temperature.

 

PEANUT BUTTER FILLING

 

Ingredients

  • 8 tablespoons butter

  •  1 1/2 cups creamy peanut butter

  •  1 cup powdered sugar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream

 

 

Directions

 

  • Combine 8 tablespoons of softened butter, 1 1/2 cups creamy peanut butter, 1 cup powdered sugar and 1 tsp. vanilla to a large mixing bowl

 

  • Beat above ingredients on low speed until smooth

 

  • Beat heavy cream until soft peaks form

  • Mix peanut butter mix and cream together

 

  • Spread the mixture into the crust

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

CHOCOLATE GANACHE

 

Ingredients

 

  • 5 oz dark chocolate, chopped

  • 5 oz milk chocolate, chopped

  • 1 cup heavy cream

 

Directions

 

  • Bring cream to a boil

  • Whisk in chocolate until melted

  • Let cool

 

 

FINISH THE PIE

 

  • Pour ganache over assembled pie

  • Let cool

  • Garnish with mini pretzels
