Lordstown Motors releases video to show Endurance durability

Lordstown Motors has posted a video designed to show that its all-electric pickup truck “Endurance” lives up to its name.
The Lordstown-based startup has released a video narrated by Director of Motor Development Mark Takacs showing the truck undergoing crash and other testing.
Saying that the failure of one of the motors on each of the four wheels is fairly unlikely, Takacs says the company does a lot of durability testing on the motors.
According to Takacs, motors on test vehicles still functioned even after undergoing crash testing.
The motors, designed by Elaphe Propulsion Technologies, are tested for operation under hot and cold conditions, as well as for vibration and shock.
One of the tests is to put the motors under a shock test under 100 times the force of gravity. Takacs says after undergoing the shocks 40 times, the motor functions fine.
The motors are also frozen for 24 hours. According to Takacs, when the motors are switched on all the ice breaks off.
Last month Lordstown Motors Tweeted four pictures of the Endurance driving through Death Valley, California, which has a reputation as one of the harshest desert climates in the country.
Earlier last year a skateboard version of the Endurance barely completed 40 miles of the grueling San Felipe 250 in Mexico. Company officials said that the time that the terrain proved to be more demanding than anticipated.
It was one year ago that an early prototype of the Endurance was consumed by flames during a test drive in Michigan.
