A semi-truck carrying hundreds, even thousands of eggs, crashed and then caught on fire late Monday night in Southwest Ohio.
The accident took place in the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 in Zanesville.
Fire crews say no one was hurt, but the tractor and trailer are a complete loss and the mess caused the highway to be shut down for about 12 hours.
Pictures posted to social media by an ODOT spokesperson show eggs splattered across the highway and many charred by the fire.
Assistant Fire Chief Doug Hobson says when crews arrived the tractor and trailer were fully engulfed. The situation was made worse by freezing temperatures. Street crews were called out to assist by spreading salt on the frozen highway before the area could be reopened.
