The Lowellville Board of Education unanimously voted on Wednesday evening not to renew the contract for District Superintendent, Geno Thomas.

This vote came two days after Thomas sent a letter of resignation to the Board. In his letter, Thomas stated that he will be resigning once his contract expires July 31, 2022.

However, Thomas also notes that his contract allows him to resign earlier, so in the alternative to resigning in July, he will resign two weeks after he is employed by another school district.

Thomas says his reason for leaving the board was to move closer to his family. His resignation is effective no later than July 31, 2022, but he sent the letter out early to allow the board ample time to search for a suitable replacement.

Thomas's full statement on his resignation can be found below:

"Recently, I've been seeking employment outside of Lowellville which the Board was aware to move closer to my family. I submitted my resignation letter early to allow the Board ample time to search for a qualified and experienced replacement and have a smooth transition."

"On December 20, 2021, I tendered my resignation in compliance with my employment contract to the Board of Education in which they acknowledged receipt. Due to the fact that my resignation is effective no later than July 31, 2022, I don't know why the Board voted to non-renew my contract effective July 31, 2022."
