Local food giveaway benefits families in the Mahoning Valley
The United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley, along with the Muransky family and Southwoods Health are hosting the Satur-Day of Caring Christmas Food Giveaway this Saturday.
During the event, 600 holiday food boxes filled with fresh foods and non-perishable items will be distributed through a drive-thru pick up at Southwoods Medical Center.
In addition to the drive-thru pick up, the United Way will also be hosting its monthly Satur-Day of Caring food giveaway, which will serve over 400 families. On the first Satur-Day of Caring the United Way served 100 families, they now serve about 400 every month.
This food giveaway was started at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, along with the Muransky famly, to help members of the Valley deal with food issues caused by the pandemic.
The United Way partnered with Ed and Chris Muransky, as well as Kufleitner Auto Group, 'Joe' Dickey Electric Inc, Meijer in Boardman, Save-A-Lot and the Nemenz and Kawecki families. As well as another donor who wished to remain anonymous.
