"Be Well in Wellsville," is a revitilization presentation that three Youngstown State University students put together to show Mayor Robert Boley and village council members how much potential their city really has.

Students Katherine Donnachie, Heather Davis and David Thompson conducted this study as part of their senior capstone project and have thrown out ideas like new programs, green infrastructure and making better use of the resources the city already has to offer.

These students are looking not only to revitilize the village as a whole, but also to increase it's population by promoting economic opportunities through connectivity.

"What we're effectively doing is creating 'yes' tourism and economic opportunities out of historical preservation of culture and also the people that have lived here and the legacy that they've left," said Donnachie.

The students discussed creating pocket parks between buildings where the community can sit and eat, promoting walkability to design a village that's more for the people than the cars, investing in turning empty or run down buildings into businesses on Main Street and the utilization of structures in general.

"Some kind of program to kind of keep track of who owns what, what shape the structure is in, what lots are empty and what they could possibly be used for in the future. Just having kind of a data base that anybody could go to," Thompson said.

Intrigued community members joined in on the conversation, adding more to the students' ideas.

"After we were done, the residents themselves, they had these excellent ideas that we didn't even think about so it just creates a larger conversation," Davis said.
