Governor Mike DeWine and First Lady Fran DeWine have were exposed Monday evening to a person who has since tested positive for COVID-19.

According to a spokesperson for the Governor, as of Thursday morning, both DeWines have no symptoms and tested negative for the virus. But, the two have postponed public events and will continue to be tested daily.

Ohio Department of Health Director, Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff, praised the governor for leading by example.

"Personal responsibility is a very important part of making any community, any society work really, really well," said Vanderhoff.

Vanderhoff acknowledged that there may be reasons people can not get vaccinated, and said there are steps we can take to protect our community.

"As we see this virus become more and more contagious. Its ability to spread and its ability to place people at risk really just becomes that much more severe," said Vanderhoff. "More and more of us are going to inevitably encounter this virus."

Vanderhoff suggested continuing to wear masks, consider the size of gatherings, and to become vaccinated when possible.
