Guardians trade Mejia & Harold Ramirez
The Cleveland Guardians today announced the following transactions:
Signed free agent C SANDY LEÓN to a Minor League contract with an invitation to 2022 Major League Spring Training Camp.
Traded RHP J.C. MEJIA to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for a player to be named or cash.
Traded OF HAROLD RAMIREZ to the Chicago Cubs for cash considerations.
León, 32, spent the 2021 season with the Miami Marlins, appearing in 83 games while making 48 starts behind the dish for the Marlins. Miami was 24-24 in his starts as the staff posted a 3.23 ERA with Sandy behind the plate (157ER/437.1IP), the lowest mark among the club’s six 2021 catchers. He threw out 26.7 pct. of would-be base stealers (8cs/22sb), started four of the club’s eight shoutouts and made six late-inning relief appearances for the fish. The Maracaibo, Venezuela native spent the 2020 season with Cleveland and was a member of the club’s postseason roster, appearing in 25 regular season games during the pandemic-shortened season. He has appeared in parts of the last ten Major League seasons with Washington, Boston, Cleveland, and Miami.
