After deliberating for more than 5 hours on Thursday, a jury in a Mercer County courtroom found a Volant man not guilty of murder for an overdose death in Grove City.

District Attorney Peter Acker tells 21 News that 34-year-old Brandon Bowers was acquitted on charges of third-degree murder and drug delivery resulting in death.

Bowers was arrested in 2020 following a year-long investigation by Grove City Police for the July 13, 2019, death of 33-year-old Michael Robert Herndon.

The jury did return guilty verdicts on counts of possession with intent to deliver, recklessly endangering another person, possession of a controlled substance, and criminal use of a communication device.

Sentencing is set before Judge Robert Yeatts on December 29.
