The Crestview boys soccer teams' incredible run in the 2021 season came up just short of a State Championship Saturday against Grandview Heights from Lower.com Field in Columbus.
The Rebels fell by a final score of 4-2 in the DIV. III State Title game, to finish a historic season with a record of 21-2-0. It was the first State Final Four appearance, and State Championship game appearance in school history. The Rebels are also the only Columbiana County boys soccer team to ever advance to a State Title game. They gave it their all, too.
After the Bobcats scored the games first two goals of the game, Crestview's Mitchell Auer followed a shot and scored to get the Rebels back in it at 2-1.
That was the score at the break, but Crestview soon capitalized on an opportunity in the second half as Ryan Emch and Auer connected on a corner kick to even the score at 2-2.
Just three minutes later, Grandview Heights re-took the lead before adding their fourth goal of the game on a penalty kick.
In all, the Rebels are the DIV. III State Runner ups, but completed the best season in team history.
