A Warren man is being held in the Mahoning County jail on federal charges alleging that he distributed child pornography.

John Swegan Jr. was arrested last week after the FBI searched his Atlantic Street home where, according to an affidavit, they found computers containing more than 100 images and videos of infants and pre-teen girls involved in sex acts with adults, other children, and animals.

The FBI office in Youngstown began the investigation in early August after a tip from the FBI’s Child Exploitation Operational Unit.

One month earlier, an undercover FBI agent found videos that depicted adult men having sex with prepubescent females.

One video showed a child that appeared to be drugged being forced to engage in oral sex with a man.

Agents say that after his arrest, Swegan admitted that he had been viewing child pornography for at least a year and had uploaded the pornography to the internet.

A public defender was appointed for Swegan during a video hearing in U.S. District Court.

He remains in federal custody before another hearing scheduled for Wednesday.
