YCSD to once again host Parent YOU event featuring famed basketball coach
The Youngstown City School District (YCSD) is kicking off its second year of its new parent engagement program, Parent YOU (Parent University) on Thursday, Oct. 21 with a famous special guest.
The kickoff event will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Chaney High School, and will feature famed basketball coach, Ken Carter, who coached for Richmond High School.
Carter will speak about the importance of education for students and parents. Carter began coaching for Richmond High School in 1997, where in just two years, he motivated students to turn their lives around, as well as turning the school around as a whole.
Carter gained national attention in 1999 when he locked his undefeated, playoff-bound team out of the gymnasium due to the players falling behind academically.
Carter instructed his players to meet him in the library in order to hit the books and not focus solely on athletics, gaining him national attention and praise and even a film retelling these events starring Samuel L. Jackson as Coach Carter.
Parents and caregivers interested in attending this event can register online here.
