Ohio Health Director to update state COVID impact on Thursday

Ohioans will likely get an update on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the state’s hospital system during an Ohio Department of Health briefing on Thursday.
ODH Director Bruce Vanderhoff, MD, has scheduled a news conference with fellow medical experts at 11 a.m., on October 14, 2021.
Scheduled to join Dr. Vanderhoff is Kirk Tucker, MD, Chief Clinical Officer, Adena Health System in Chillicothe, and Adam Mezoff, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Dayton Children's Hospital.
According to the Ohio Hospital Association, 3,340 patients were hospitalized for COVID in the state as of Wednesday. That’s down from the 3,741 COVID patients reported a week-and-a-half ago.
The Hospital Association reported yesterday that 927 COVID patients were in Ohio intensive care units as of yesterday. That number is less than the 1,063 COVID patients in ICUs two weeks ago.
Compared to four weeks ago, COVID admissions at Ohio hospitals have declined for those 69-years-old and younger. However, during the same period hospitalizations for those 70 and older have increased.
