Campbell man sentenced for murdering Sharon woman
A Campbell, Ohio man who was scheduled to go on trial Tuesday for the fatal shooting of a woman in Sharon plead guilty to a lesser charge and was immediately sentenced to prison.
Antwan Jones Jr., 21, pleaded guilty to third-degree murder in connection with the July 12, 2020, shooting death of 36-year-old Clarice Somerville of Sharon.
Mercer County Common Pleas Court Judge Ronald Amrhein Jr. sentenced Jones to 20-to-40 years in prison.
On the day of the shooting, police investigating reports of gunfire and people arguing found Somerville wounded on a sidewalk on the 300 block Quimby Street at around 3 p.m. The victim was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, where she died.
After police saw witnesses kicking in the door to an apartment at 307 Quimby, officers went inside and said they found Jones hiding in a shower on the second floor.
Detectives say Jones was taken to the police station, where he confessed to shooting Somerville.
Jones had been charged with first-degree murder, third-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and recklessly endangering another person.
Jones also pleaded guilty to having a firearm without a license.
