A day that began with the promise of marital bliss instead ended in marital blitz after a fight broke out during a wedding at the Mahoning Country Club on Friday.
Attendees told police that several groomsmen were overheard saying the best man and brother of the groom, John Desmond, had slept with the bride.
The groom, Thomas Desmond II, began fighting other men at the wedding when he heard them speaking of the alleged affair, according to officers at the scene.
Witnesses told police that the Desmond brothers then joined forces to fight against the other wedding brawlers.
It is reported that this led to several bridesmaids breaking into several simultaneous fights.
Girard Police said they arrived to find multiple combatants fighting and being separated in the parking lot.
John Desmond was already in custody of the Liberty PD with bloody knuckles, blood covered pants and no shirt. Police said he was very intoxicated and could barely stand.
While officers dealt with the 34-year-old John Desmond, they say 74-year old Vernon Akins emerged from the crowd and began to interfere with them. Girard Police said he was also intoxicated.
The police report said Akins then shoved an officer and was immediately put under arrest. He resisted, and after being warned by police, he was tased.
John Desmond and Akins were both booked and charged with persistent disorderly conduct. Further potential charges against Akins for resisting arrest are under review.
Reporting officers said they received between eight and ten calls about the incident while on route to the scene. One stated that security was doing nothing and that the situation was out of control.
