Fisker Motors CEO excited about building EV's in Lordstown

As we learn more about the pending partnership between Lordstown Motors and Taiwan based Foxconn, one of the most exciting prospects of the deal is that Fisker Motors will have its new PEAR electric car produced at the Lordstown plant.
"We know Ohio well," Fisker CEO Henrik Fisker said. "I happened to have seen the plant as well, done diligence on it several years ago so I know it is a good plant and I've seen it again lately so I think it's a great plant, a good opportunity for Foxconn and it will fit really well for our vehicle. We need a fairly large plant."
CEO Henrik Fisker says if all goes as planned, the Lordstown Motors Plant will start producing Fisker's new PEAR electric vehicle by 2024. 150,000 a year to start but eventually the goal is to make 250,000 a year.
"We would also export this vehicle globally and I believe this car has the real potential as a big success, of course also because of the pricing," Fisker said.
The PEAR, which Fisker is not ready to show off, stands for Personal Electronic Automotive Revolution. Fisker says it will be the first premium EV to cost under $30,000.
"This is a whole new type of vehicle," Fisker said. "It doesn't have for example a normal way, a normal trunk lid or a normal hatch to get into the rear of the vehicle. It has a lot of innovative features, it looks very different, looks very powerful, very dynamic, very exciting. It will look like nothing else and that is exciting."
Fisker says they will market the PEAR to everyone.
"It's both premium as well as an everyday vehicle. It kind of crosses social borders and I think we miss a car like that and I think that's where the future is, where it is more about the connectivity, the user interface about this car rather than just putting this car into a specific segment. It's really what I would call a segment buster, it doesn't fit in any segment, anybody could buy this car."
Production was slated to begin in the first quarter of 2024, but since the Lordstown Plant is almost ready to go, they may accelerate the start date.
"There is still some investment to be made but of course, there are a lot of things already in that plant that doesn't have to be built again so that is a big advantage and we believe this plant in Ohio could help us start production earlier," Fisker said.
This is all happening because Foxconn partnered with Fisker back in May to build its PEAR EV in the United States. Foxconn needed a plant to do it though. Fisker says he couldn't be more thrilled they chose Lordstown.
"I am very excited about this acquisition Foxconn is looking at with this factory in Ohio specifically because I've been to Ohio many times, I've talked to Jobs Ohio, I've talked to several others In Ohio. It is a state that has a lot of automotive experience, a lot of manufacturing, a lot of suppliers so supply chain is extremely good for automotive in Ohio. I think the state understands how to support this automotive industry. I think the labor force is really strong in Ohio so I am very excited about it and I think we can really accelerate this vehicle and I think we are going to get a super high-quality vehicle at the end of the day."
Fisker says they are planning to launch four new vehicles by the end of 2024. The Fisker Ocean launches next year and two more vehicles are still under wraps. Fisker says there is a chance they too could be produced in Lordstown.
"We can also make other vehicles based on the PEAR platform which we are developing together with Foxconn so I could imagine other type of vehicles sitting in that platform which of course could go in the factory in Ohio and further expand the volume."
It would certainly give another jolt to the Voltage Valley.
