Fifteen drug buys lead to conviction of Youngstown man

An undercover investigation that began more than two years ago has resulted in the conviction of a Youngstown man for selling powerful narcotics on the city’s West Side and South Side.
Jarrell Martin of South Dunlap Avenue pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to seven charges including distribution of Methoxyacetyl, Carfentanil, Fentanyl, Heroin, and Cocaine; possession with intent to distribute Fentanyl and Methamphetamine, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Martin, 32, who originally was indicted on 39 counts, is scheduled to be sentenced in January.
An affidavit filed by an FBI Task Force officer says that confidential sources were given government money to make fifteen drug purchases from Martin between June of 2019 through January of 2020.
The affidavit says five of the purchases were made along Mahoning Avenue on the West Side, while nine other drug buys took place on West Indianola Avenue on the South Side.
One of the purchases took place at the dead-end of Matta Avenue next to McGuffey Elementary School on the West Side, according to the affidavit.
The drugs that were purchased were tested at the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Most were mixtures of heroin, fentanyl, carfentanil, and cocaine.
