Catholic Diocese to close two Campbell churches in November

Two Campbell churches will close their doors later this year.
The Catholic Diocese of Youngstown announced Sunday that both Saint Lucy Church and Saint Joseph the Provider Church will close on November 28, 2021.
According to the release, Bishop David Bonnar accepted the recommendation of pastoral and finance councils of Christ the Good Shepherd Parish to make Saint John the Baptist campus the parish's one worship site.
Closing mass will be scheduled for both Saint Lucy and Saint Joseph in November.
The recommendation by the parish's councils to choose Saint John the Baptist campus as the worship site was given to Bishop Bonnar on August 29.
Rev. James Korda and council members were charged with implementing the 2019 Pastoral Plan of the late Bishop George Murry, which called for one worship site in the City of Campbell.
Their purpose was to assess and strengthen the parish viability in the face of an almost $850,000 debt.
“It is imperative that this matter be resolved for the good of the Church and that a Catholic community continues to exist in the City of Campbell. As your bishop, I am committed to Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, however, we have to live in reality and accept the fact that there can be only one worship site,” said Bishop Bonnar.
