Update: Mooney coach placed on leave, arrest warrant issued
Boardman police have issued a warrant for the arrest of Cardinal Mooney football coach Carl Pelini.
Police tell 21 News Pelini is charged with domestic violence and is not currently in custody.
According to a police report, police were called to Ivy Hill Drive to investigate a domestic dispute phoned to 911.
Police say Pelini's wife, Julie, said her husband hit her during an argument. Officers say the wife had a black eye. They also found blood on the kitchen floor.
An ambulance was called, but the wife declined medical attention and refused to sign a written statement.
Coach Pelini had already left the home.
21 News is working on getting more details on the incident that led to charges filed against Pelini and what it may mean for his job at Mooney.
Pelini is the brother of former Youngstown State University head coach Bo Pelini, who left for Louisiana State University.
According to Cardinal Mooney, Pelini has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation and final resolution.
The school is aware of the allegations against Pelini.
School president Tom Maj has named Mike Tucci has interim head coach. Athletic director Jim Jablonski will continue to serve as associate athletic director.
