Ohio health officials are concerned about the rising number of cases of respiratory illnesses in children.

Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff on Monday will hold a press conference with pediatric medical experts about those concerns, as well as an update on COVID-19.

Also taking part in the 11:30 a.m. briefing will be Patty Manning-Courtney, MD, Pediatrician, Chief of Staff, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and Michael Forbes, MD, Pediatric Intensive Care Specialist, Akron Children’s Hospital.

21 News recently reported about a rise in Respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, which is a common respiratory virus that usually causes mild, cold-like symptoms.

Most people recover in a week or two, but RSV can be serious, especially for infants and older adults. RSV is the most common cause of inflammation of the small airways in the lung and pneumonia in children younger than 1 year of age in the United States.
