Poland High School announces 2021 HOF Class

Poland Seminary High School announces that it will be inducting fourteen new members to the Poland Athletic Hall of Fame this year. The induction ceremony will take place on August 27th prior to the Poland vs Louisville football game. There will be also be a Hall of Fame tailgate party prior to the game- all former coaches and inductees are invited to attend. This year’s class includes:
Jim Guterba (1962) Played Guard for the 1960 and 1961 undefeated Tri-County Football Team. Jim chose to forgo offers to play college football and enlisted in the US Marine Corps where he received the Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Presidential Citation, Navy Unit Commander Ribbon and the RVN Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation for his time served in Viet Nam.
Brad Felger (1970) Was a three-year letter winner in track and broke the school record for the high jump and long jump. His record of 22 and a half feet for the long jump still stands today.
Matt Felt (1983) Was a three-year starter for the Bulldogs on the Offensive Line. He was selected to the AA All State team in 1983. Matt went on to play at the U.S. Naval Academy. He was the first Center to be selected as MVP, earning the “Silver Helmet Award” from the Naval Academy and was also an Honorable Mention All American. Matt went on to spend 31 years with the U.S. Navy and retired as a Captain in 2018.
Kerri Larcinese Galvin (1987) Was one of the first female runners to gain recognition in Track at Poland. A three-year letter winner, she set the school record in the 100 Meter low hurdles, 100 intermediate hurdles and the 300 low hurdles. She was also a Cheerleader (captain as a senior) and went on to cheer for four years at the University of South Carolina.
Georgia Sainato Wiet (1996) Was a four-year letter winner for the Bulldogs in Track She was a three-time MAC Champion in the 4x100, 4x200, 100 hurdles and set the school record in the high hurdles where she was a four-time State Qualifier. Georgia was also a Cheerleader for the Bulldogs and went on the Cheer for four years at The Ohio State University.
Jennifer Corvino (1996) Was a four-year letter winner for the Lady Bulldogs Soccer Team. As a Goaltender she posted 33 shutouts and her teams were 65-14-14 over that four-year span. She garnered numerous All County and District awards and was recruited by YSU and Bowling Green to play on their inaugural soccer teams.
Nick Dalesandro (2000) Nick was a two- year letter winner in track running in the 4x100 and relay and was an All-League performer as a Junior and Senior. He was a member of the 2000 State Relay team that also won the MAC and District Championships. Nick was also a member of the 1999 undefeated State Football Team. After graduation, Nick went onto to run Track at John Carroll University.
Shaun Saad (2000) Shaun was a three-year letter winner for the Bulldogs at Running back and Linebacker. An All-State selection, he was one of the leaders of the undefeated 1999 State Championship Football Team. He was the team defensive player of the year in 1998 and 1999. Offensively Shaun holds the record for scoring 5 touchdowns in one game. Shaun was also a three-year letter winner in baseball where he was an All-League selection his Junior and Senior years. Shaun went on to attend Clarion University where he played linebacker and was an NCAA Academic All-American.
Shane Davis (2002) Was a three-year letter winner in baseball for the Bulldogs at Catcher. A Team Captain as a Senior, Shane batted .565 with 5 Home Runs and 32 RBIs to lead Poland to the State Semi-Final game. He hit 13 home runs over his career and was a three-time All MAC Conference selection. He was selected as the Vindicator Player of the Year as a senior and was also First Team All-State. Davis went on to play for Eastern Michigan on an Athletic Scholarship and was a four-year letter winner and a member of two MAC Conference Championship teams. In addition to baseball, Shane played football and was a member of the 1999 undefeated 15-0 State Championship Team. Today Shane is currently the pitching coach at Youngstown State University.
Sean Clayton (2003) Was the starting Quarterback for the Bulldogs from 2001-2003 accounting for over 4300 yards and 43 touchdowns during his career. He was an All- State selection in in 2001 and 2002 and was selected to the Prep Star Midwest All Star Game. Highly recruited, Shaun received a full athletic scholarship to Michigan State University. He later transferred to Florida Atlantic University where he played for legendary coach Howard Shnellenberger. During his career he played in the Alamo Bowl and New Orleans Bowl. Sean also excelled on the baseball field for the Bulldogs where he was also selected All State as a Junior and Senior.
David Koval (2004) Was a three-year Letter winner in Football as a wide receiver for the Bulldogs. He holds 5 school receiving records: most catches in a game (13), most catches in a season (70), most catches in a career (129), most touchdown receptions in a career (19) and most receiving yards in a career (1830). He was All-Conference in 2002 and 2003 and All State in 2003. He also received the Top Dog Award from his teammates his Senior year. Along with football, Koval played baseball where he was an All-Conference selection as a Senior and part of two District Championship Teams. Lastly, David ran track for four years and was the Conference Champion in the 100 and 200 in 2002 and 2003. After High School David attended Miami of Ohio where he played football on an Athletic Scholarship.
Ryan Storkel (2010) Was a four-year Letter winner in Soccer and Team Captain. Hi Junior and Senior seasons he was First Team All- Conference, District Player of the Year and First Team All-State. As a Senior his team was 15-0-1. Ryan also ran Track and was a member of the 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams that made it to State multiple times, finishing 3rd in 2010 and 5th in 2009.
Ken Grisdale- Basketball Coach Coach Grisdale led the Bulldogs for 28 years compiling an overall record of 506-157. He is the 49th Coach in the State of Ohio to accomplish this feat. During his 28 year career, Grisdale’s teams won 506 games, 15 Conference Titles, 20 Sectional Championships, 10 District Championships, 3 Regional Championships, 3 Final Four Appearance and were the 2007 AP Poll Champions. During his time at Poland Grisdale also coached Track and Football.
Jamie Dunn- Girls Basketball Coach Coach Dunn coached the Lady Bulldogs Basketball team from 1991 through 2005 and has more victories than any coach in the Program’s history. He led the Lady Bulldogs to 2 State Final Four Appearances, 2 Regional Championships, 1 Regional Runner-up, 3 straight District Championships (1998-2000), 1 District Runner-up, 8 Sectional Championships and 3 League Championships. During his time at Poland Dunn also coached Boys Basketball (won league title in 1978) and served as an assistant football coach for a team that won 5 league championships.
