For more than a decade, the Avamar Foundation has been helping the elderly who can't afford to pay for their prescriptions.

"We have been pretty successful over the years," said Dr. Farid Naffah. "We've been able to help a lot of people. We're not a big foundation, we're a small foundation but we come in from an angle that for the most part has been omitted or forgotten and it's the angle of helping those needy elderly in our community."

The foundation's biggest fundraiser is coming up August 20th and 21st. It's called "An Evening Under the Stars" and is hosted by Dr. Farid Naffah.

"This is just not any fundraiser, this is a true party, this involves all that pleases the senses, involves food, wine, music and entertainment," Dr. Naffah said.

It's become one of the Mahoning Valley's premier parties.

"I love the fact that this, which was initiated as a way to raise money or way to have a little fun has turned into a community party," Dr. Naffah said. "It's something that a lot of people wait for year after year, Dr. Naffah, are you having your party this year, Dr. Naffah we want to go to the party!"

The party will raise around $50,000 for the foundation and can be a real lifeline for seniors who are struggling.

"There are many of them and I see them in my practice and my colleagues are the physicians in the community see that every day," said Dr. Naffah. "There are a lot of people that live on a fixed income and that fixed income is not very substantial. The cost of drugs is such that they can't afford it, they often have to forgo their medications because they just don't have the money."

The 13th Annual Evening Under the Stars will feature food from AVI, wine from Luva Bella, an art exhibit by John Payiavlas and the music of Paul McCartney featuring Tony Kishman.

It's being held outdoors at the beatiful Cadobaz in Bazetta Township on Friday night, August 20 or Saturday night August 21st. Hors D'oeuvres start at 5 pm and Dining starts at 7 pm. If you would like to order tickets, you can do so here.
