Ohio Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted was in Youngstown Thursday, to tour YSU's brand new Excellence Training Center.

YSU's Excellence Training Center now offers the Work Advance program. It helps adult learners prepare for entry-level growth with local manufacturers.

"The Work Advanced Program is a partnership involving the Manufacturers Coalition and Eastern Gateway Community College where people can come in and seek other pathways or options in their career where they can get upskills or reskilled," said the Center's executive director, David Sipusic.

The Lt. Gov. calls the training center the best of its kind in the state.

"When you start here it's very low cost or no cost to students and you earn a credential or credits along the way that can take you to a career or a job in a very short period of time. High paying jobs," said Lt. Gov. Husted.

These advanced manufacturing programs, whether they be in machining, robotics or other vocations, can last just a few weeks or even long enough to get a 2 or 4 year degree.

"Being able to place this on your resume, you can build off it by getting this training," said student, Michael Simons.

Husted says the Youngstown region is a hub for workforce development. He says manufacturers looking to build in an area are looking for workers who can get easily accessible skills training and a facility like this can help do that and potentially lure more businesses to come to our area.
