Fire departments from three counties were called out early Wednesday to battle a raging blaze at a closed steel plant in Trumbull County.

Dispatchers got a call just after 2 a.m. that “massive” flames and heavy smoke were pouring from the second floor of a Warren Steel Holdings building on Mahoning Ave. NW in Warren Township.

A caller also reported hearing “popping” sounds on the property that was once known as Copperweld Steel.

Firefighters from Braceville, Champion, Southington, Newton Falls, and Lordstown were already on the scene when the roof of the building collapsed.

A second alarm went out for departments in Geauga County’s Middlefield, as well as Windsor and Orwell in Geauga County.

No injuries have been reported.

Investigators will be looking for a cause of the fire.
