Thousands of homes and businesses in Boardman and Youngstown overnight and a major road was shut down after a car crashed into a pole along Southern Boulevard.

Shortly after 11 p.m. Monday, dispatchers received multiple calls of sparks at the substation on Southern Boulevard just north of Route 224.

Police say a car struck a pole at Woodrow Avenue and Southern, just north of the substation. The crash was called in as an injury accident.

Power lines were across the road, and police blocked Southern Boulevard in the area.
