The Trumbull County Mental Health and Recovery Board (TCMHRB) has received a grant that will support plans to implement Mobile Response and Stabilization Services (MRSS) for Trumbull County youth and families.

The grant totals $226,811, and is one of eight coming from the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services in collaboration with Governor Mike DeWine's Children's Initiative and the Ohio Department of Medicaid.

The MRSS will provide rapid intervention for those up to age 21 who are experiencing behavioral health crises. Families who request services will receive assistance in-person within 60 minutes of contacting the hotline.

After the crisis, families can receive anywhere up to 45 days of stabilization services.

"MRSS will help fill a gap in our current children's system of care," said children's program coordinator Laura Domitrovich. "Families will receive immediate help to de-escalate a crisis situation and hopefully prevent unnecessary hospitalization or out-of-home placement."

The TCMHRB will contract with Coleman Professional Services, who also provides MRSS in several other counties around Ohio, to implement this mobile crisis program.

"Coleman is very pleased to be a part of this initiative in Trumbull County as we are definitely seeing more presentations of youth and young adults in crisis," said Tammy Weaver, Coleman's Vice President of Clinical Services in a press release. "This mobile response and after care service is intended to keep families intact and reduce in patient hospitalization as clinically appropriate. We will be working with key community partners to provide ongoing community-based care to best serve the families."

The MRSS team will provide services 24/7, including safety assessments, de-escalation, peer support, skill-building, and more.
