Braceville Township passes coding resolution on exotic animals

Braceville Township trustees approved a resolution that establishes guidelines for those owning wild and exotic animals as pets.
The resolution requires exotic pet owners to provide secure housing for the animal and be able to show a proof of purchase.
Any endangered animal is not permitted to be kept as a pet. This resolution was created after a former incident in 2019 involving a monkey getting loose.
"It's going to give our zoning inspector and our law enforcement control on how they can charge these people," said George Gordon, Chairperson of the Zoning Commission. "If an incident does occur such as an incident with the monkey down the road, they had nothing to back them up as far as legals. So this will help strengthen that."
This resolution also prohibits the exhibition of the exotic animals to the public.
