A more than two-month investigation into the alleged hacking of a Mahoning County woman’s Snapchat account has resulted in the arrest of a Salem man.

Brandon James, 22, was booked into the county jail over the weekend on charges of Unauthorized Use of Property, Dissemination of an Image of Another Person, and Telephone Harassment.

The arrest followed an investigation by Goshen Police into an April 17 report from a 22-year-old Green Township woman who said someone hacked into her Snapchat and posted a picture of her standing nude in front of a mirror.

The woman told investigators that the picture had been taken three years before and thought she had it secured in a private file.

The alleged victim told police she found the Internet Protocol address of the person who got into her account and traced it to someone in Salem using Spectrum internet.  She told investigators she had no idea who would have posted the photo.

Police told the woman to change the passwords on her social media accounts while they continued to investigate.

According to police, after they arrested him at his Southeast Boulevard home on Sunday, he admitted accessing the woman's Snapchat account but said he didn't know how the picture was posted.

James has been released from jail and awaits arraignment in county court.
