Mercer strangulation suspect is convicted sex offender on parole
The suspect charged with strangling his newlywed wife at his mother’s Mercer County trailer is a registered sex offender.
Forty-four-year-old Eric George is held in the county jail after police say he admitted to a 911 dispatcher that he strangled 41-year-old Serena Anne Schoeder who was found dead in the Pine Grove Mobile Home Park on the Perry Highway late Monday.
According to Wisconsin court records, in 2000, George was sentenced to 11 years in prison after being convicted of second-and third-degree sexual assault in Milwaukee. The court also ordered that George spend five years on probation after the completion of his sentence.
A Pennsylvania offender database states that George remains on parole. He is also registered in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania as a sex offender which lists his aliases as Esycho George and Evil George.
Wisconsin court records described George as a habitual, repeat offender.
The criminal complaint filed in district court states that George married Schoeder this year and was living at his mother’s trailer.
Police say George called 9-1-1 around 10:45 p.m. Monday saying he had strangled his wife.
The Police Major Case Team, along with Mercer County Coroner John Libonati were called to the crime scene. Libonati says the victim was pronounced dead at the scene and taken to Erie County for an autopsy.
Libonati suspects the cause of death is asphyxiation by strangulation.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 28.
