Fallen officers remembered in Youngstown during police memorial
Police officers who paid the ultimate sacrifice were remembered during a police memorial in Youngstown.
The Fraternal Order of Police Lodges for the Mahoning County Sheriff's Office and Youngstown police put the memorial on Thursday.
A procession of motorcycles and police cruisers traveled across the Peace Officer's Memorial Bridge on South Avenue to Our Lady of Mount Carmel for a morning service.
Rick Alli with the Youngstown police lodge says they've been putting this on for almost 30 years. Alli says he has more than four decades of law enforcement experience and knew a lot of the officers who were slain, including Girard officer Justin Leo. The 31 year old died after being shot in the line of duty on Oct. 21, 2017.
"A vast majority of police officers in this country are doing a fine job, and they're dedicated to their duties. So we do this to honor those who stayed on the path, the true and narrow, and made the ultimate sacrifice," Alli said.
