Victims of Youngstown bar shooting identified
The Mahoning County Coroner's Office has identified the people who were killed in an early morning shooting near a Youngstown bar.
The two victims were identified as 19-year-old Mikquan Stevens and 23-year-old Rayshaun Clay.
Police said a total of three people were killed and several others were hurt when gunfire rang out near the Torch Club Bar and Grill on Salt Springs Road.
Reports of the shooting came in around 2 a.m. Sunday.
Youngstown police said officers from the patrol division and the neighborhood response unit quickly arrived on scene and began to give first aid to several victims near the bar.
Due to the large crowds, officers from Austintown, Mill Creek, Girard, Liberty and the Ohio State Highway Patrol provided assistance.
Along with the three fatalities, Youngstown police say at least three others were hurt from apparent gunshot wounds with at least one in critical condition.
Detectives collected surveillance video from a nearby restaurant, shell casings and blood samples from the ground.
They say this was not a mass shooting, but describe it as multiple guns fired with multiple people shot.
Neighbors in the area who declined to go on camera out of fear of retalitation, say they saw 100 to 200 people in the streets.
They say they saw men arguing and then shooting at each other and then a security guard began shooting.
One man tells 21 News he was sitting in his recliner in the living room when a bullet entered his home and missed him by only three feet.
During a Sunday morning news conference, Youngstown Police Chief Carl Davis says none of the shootings took place inside of the Torch Club Bar.
However, he says the violence stemmed from an incident that began there.
Davis says there are at least three separate crime scenes. There are two locations for shootings around the bar, and the other is a fatal car accident that happened nearby on Greenwood Street shortly after the incident near Torch Club Bar.
The coroner identified that victim as 27-year-old Charles Boerio Jr.
It's unknown if he died in the crash because of the crash or if he was shot in the crossfire, according to investigators from the coroner's office.
"This is a complex investigation involving multiple crime scenes, numerous witnesses, six detectives and three crime scene unit personnel," Davis said. "We are using all of our available resources to ensure a thorough and proper investigation is conducted."
The family of Boerio suffered a double tragedy when they found out Charle's uncle, Nicholas Boerio, died just hours later after he crashed into the 7-11 bridge.
Youngstown Law Director Jeff Limbian says the Torch Bar and Grill was having what he calls a pop up concert.
He goes on to say that these types of events caused similar situations at several other venues including Fyrst lounge, Coconut Grove and most recently, the Utopia night club.
He says pop up security at events like these is becoming a major problem because often times the same security personnel is used at these events.
Late this afternoon, 21 news found out that Mayor Tito Brown and other city officials have been in contact with Governor Mike DeWine about these fatal shootings.
Police say there are no suspects in custody, but there are a number of individuals police are talking to.
Officials note there have been a number of complaints at the Torch Club Bar that have drawn officers there before but nothing of this magnitude.
