YPD: 'All available resources' used to probe triple fatal bar shooting
Three people were killed and multiple others were hurt when gunfire rang out near a Youngstown bar early Sunday morning.
Reports of a shooting came in around 2 a.m. in the area of the Torch Club Bar and Grill on Salt Springs Road.
Youngstown police say officers from the patrol division and the neighborhood response unit quickly arrived on scene and began to give first aid to several victims near the bar.
Due to the large crowds, officers from Austintown, Mill Creek, Girard, Liberty and the Ohio State Highway Patrol provided assistance.
Along with the three fatalities, Youngstown police say at least three others were hurt from apparent gunshot wounds with at least one in critical condition.
During a morning news conference, Youngstown Police Chief Carl Davis says none of the shootings took place inside of the Torch Club Bar. However, he says the violence stemmed from an incident that began there.
Davis says there are at least three separate crime scenes. There are two locations for shootings around the bar, and the other is a fatal car accident that happened nearby on Greenwood Street shortly after the incident near Torch Club Bar.
"This is a complex investigation involving multiple crime scenes, numerous witnesses, six detectives and three crime scene unit personnel," Davis said. "We are using all of our available resources to ensure a thorough and proper investigation is conducted."
Police say there are no suspects in custody, but there are a number of individuals police are talking to.
Officials note there have been a number of complaints at the Torch Club Bar that have drawn officers there before but nothing of this magnitude.
Councilman Mike Ray represents the area where the bar is located and says there's been activity there that's "well beyond a neighborhood setting." He gave examples of complaints about loud music and excessive crowds. Ray says he's been working with the police department and mayor on addressing the issues but notes it takes time to build a case. He stressed the city won't put up with the violence that took place overnight Sunday.
"We won't tolerate this... I heard the shots myself. This affects me as well. I am a resident right in the neighborhood here... I feel the safety concerns of our residents," Ray said.
